Commonly Known as Scamp

Also a member of the grouper family the Scamp can be found in Texas water but not in great numbers. Usually found around offshore structures such as platforms and sunken ships. Scamps coloration are from light tan with numerous spots to darker brown with dots not as prominent. Their basic diet consist of small fish and crustaceons. Average is 5 pounds or less but sometime get into the double digits on occasion. the scamp will congregate around snapper bank, and other underwater structure. When hook will put up a fight till the differences in pressure kills them on the way to the surface. It is not usually to find the fish stomach protruding from their mouths when hauled on board. But don't let this gross disfigurement put you off they do make excellent eating.
