( Thious Littlious Pigious)

Commonly Known as Pigfish

Also known as Piggy Perch this species is part of the grunt family. Pigfish are a trout/redfish anglers best friend since they make such good live bait when going after those trophy size game fish species. Although not as common as the pinfish they are found in the same general areas. Around piers, jetties, pilings, oysters bed and channels. Being a member of the grunt family when caught they will produce a distinctive grunting sound which is a kick for those younger anglers. Diet consist of mainly small crustaceans and mollusks. Can be readily caught with small hooks tip with bits of shrimp or crab. Not sought after for their tablefare, too bony and tiny, best used for live bait.
