Bestowed with a variety of nick names, most worthy of this particular species of the water worlds well documented reputation. If fish could be compared to fishing vessels like a Barracuda's speed is similar to an ocean runner. A grouper may be thought of as the barges of the deep. Then the Tarpon would best be represented as the ocean liners of the water. These gentle giants would not be your typical Carnival Cruise Lines of modern day ships. Their elegance and grace are more note worthy of the past generations of luxury liners such as the Queen Mary the Andrea Doria or the Titanic. To fully appreciate this giants mirrorlike appearance he is best view from under the surface of the water. With help of the water ability to refract the sunlight it help enhance the full effect that his shimmering scales provide to our unworthy eyes. And the good news about this third contestant on the grand slam tour is they are definitely found in Texas waters. Over the past years this particular species is starting to make a much welcome reappearance to the Texas fishing scene. And since they are a protected species of game fish. Only with special tags are anglers allowed to keep Tarpon. Their continually appearance to our water should only get better!!!!

Up and down the Texas coast Mr. T can be found cruising the out edges of the beach fronts. Especially between Sabine Pass and Freeport, where this stretch of ocean is referred to as Tarpon Alley by the guides who fish this species for a living. Best method of attack are trolling a wide area with specially rig bait fish such as mullet or menhaden. Although luck will play a big part in actually hooking up with one of these giants. And to actually land one of these majestics of the surf, more blessing from the fish gods are a must. Your chances for hanging into one of these monster will greatly be enhanced if you employee the services of some of the more knowledgeable guides along the Texas Coast.

Known for their spectacular leaping abilities and stamina in the fighting arena. Although these giants of the water are mostly sought after in Texas waters. The smaller of this species especially in warmer carribean waters make excellent opponents. When fished with lighter tackle, smaller tarpon put on quite a show for those anglers lucky enough to hang into one of these gymnast of the shallows. With powerful runs that will strip the line of a reel faster than you would like to witness. And acrobatic leaps from the restrainants of the natural enviorments the water. Tarpon will have more hang time during one of their runs than Michael Jordan during a play off game. They have the special ability to spit those unwanted lure back at their appointments with great accurate.

Refereed to by many names, Silver Kings, Gentle Giants,Mr. Majestic or just plain Tarpon, these fantastic wonders of the oceans are not regarded in such high esteem by pure coincidence. Mr Tarpon has waged many a hard fought battle to gain such noririty amount the fishing community as one of the most admired saltwater species, especially in the gulf coast region. And as such should be treated with the utmost deservedly respect and gratitude for the chance of being in their royal presence. So if you ever become one of the prividledge few to be graced with the opportunity to hang into one of the gentle giants of mother ocean. Although their sheer power and beauty is overwhelming. And the adrenalin will be pumping faster than gasoline going through a carborator on a dragster. These superb specimen of nature a very delicate when it come to contact with humans. And we wouldn't want anything to compromise their ability to provide another fisherman with the chance to behold the spectical of hooking up with one of these monsters of the surf!!!!!!
