( Fattious Albertious Tunaious)

Commonly Known as Bluefin Tuna

When it comes to tuna this particular member is the ButterBean of the tuna family. Growing to the enormous sizes exceeding a 1,000 pounds or more there is little wonder why this member of the tuna family is so heavily fished commercially. And although the are one of the premier sport fishing game fish of the world, being so heavily fished for their commercial value had put this bruiser on the endangered species hit list for saltwater inhabitants. And having such an unprestigious honor your Marine Fisheries Service would appreciate all sport anglers efforts in the catch and release programs when hooking up with one of these bad boys of the oceans. With long migratory habits, chances are slim that any Texas angler will likely have the pleasure of hooking up with this rod-bender, line snapping, gear-grinder and back breaker member of the tuna family. And unless you have come prepared to catch a whale by the tail there is little doubt your tackle will hold up even if you find yourself fortunate enough to hook up with one of these monsters. Chances are better of landing a submarine on a speck rig, unless you happen to be fishing for big grouper and one of the tubby tunas hit your bait on the way down. Otherwise be sure the camera has film in it when the opportunity arises, cause it may be the chance of a lifetime, and you wouldn't want to miss capturing it for those unbelievers!!!!

As we mentioned early this wide load of the ocean is very migratory. Best chances for Texas anglers to hook up are in the blue waters far offshore. Best methods would be trolling with bait or pieces of bait fish. And with the average weight in the class of a Dallas Cowboys lineman, with the speed of a Tony Dorsett and just as many moves. It is little wonder why this particular game species is held in such high esteem!!!! Tackle recommendations is extremely radical, if you think you are prepared, then more than likely you aren't. If you ever seen the movie jaws and seen the rig that Quint had fishing for the 2 ton mechanical Whitey. With enough piano wire to keep Little Richard in supply for a life time. A winch for a reel that would look just as natural perched on the bumper of your jeep. Spooled with enough line you may be cheaper off buying stock in Andre fishing line company than purchasing it straight over the counter. That way you at least get some dividends on your tackle expenditures for the year. Then I guess you might be ready to rumble with this ulta-heavy weight from the big blue waters offshore. Just remember these giants of the oceans are getting in short supply on a daily basis. So be sure to practice tagging your quarry to help in further studies of this excellent sport fish growth and migratory habits. Just be sure it is the fish that gets the tagging and not the other way around!!!!
